Newsletter The Prowler A
Story About an Angel Submitted
by Sharon Dumay Did
you ever start to tell someone a story, a true story, only to have the person
look at you with disbelief? If youre like me, you begin to feel that everyone
is questioning your sanity. I mean every time you tell your story, eyes roll,
foreheads wrinkle and eyebrows that had always seemed relatively idle move into
a neighboring zip code. After awhile, you just stop telling the story. I know
I did. Instead I relived it every day, savored the joy and believed in the wonder
of the miracle. But now I am delighted that my friends and co-volunteers at Sav-R-Cats
have asked me to share the story of how Angel came into my life. This
is Angels story. When I first met her, she was about two weeks old. Now
thats just a guess. She was covered in sand and was lying on the beach in
what could only be described as a semi-comatose state. No mama or papa in sight.
No family at all. Two barking dogs discovered her first. I had witnessed Angels
arrival on the beach, but I didnt believe my eyes. The dogs and their deep,
alarming barks motivated me to explore the little package. I asked myself, What
could have just fallen from the sky? BUT Angel just didnt fall. This precious
little kitten was dropped from an open, clear summer sky onto the soft amber colored
sands of Myrtle Beach. Well
here we go again. Youve got that doubting Thomas look about you. Im
not making this story up. Im not even embellishing the story though my friends
say Ive been known to do that. Angel
was a miracle package dropped most likely by a hawk or other bird of prey that
probably was bringing it to her nest to feed it to her family of babies, but could
not hold onto it. This is how I came to find my Angel covered in sand and almost
dead on the beach. It
took several weeks to nurse her back to health but as you can see from her picture,
she is very healthy and just as sweet and affectionate as she can be. She brings
pure joy to me every second of the day. Cats are like that and if you want to
enjoy the unconditional love of a cat, please contact SAV-R-CATS at 843-839-6902,
and make an appointment to visit our shelter, where we have many kittens and cats
that we have rescued, and adopt your purrfect companion pet. ____________________________________________ About
Our Organization
An organization is only as strong as its leaders. Much is asked and much is expected
from them. Compassion, affection and love are the key component elements of their
work. These feelings infiltrate and imbue workers to work and perform in a similar
manner, where in it helps strengthen and leads an organization to successful heights.
It is not often you find a person with the three dimensional traits as described
above. However, we at SAV-R-CATS are very fortunate in having such person(s) volunteering
their services for our organization. One such person is Karyn Barber, the Executive
Director of SRC; a tireless, sensitive, hard worker, whose solace is to serve
the feral, abandoned and lost cats communities. Karyn is a person of great stamina
and wisdom. Joining Karyn as an indispensable leader and dedicated servant whose
assistance goes unnoticed BUT so vital and necessary for the good work done by
SRC. Is the dynamo Donna Sprague? Donna is one of our many unsung heroes, whose
patience and fortuitiveness has inspired and helped SRC continue to be a vital
friend to the feral cat population. Bernadette Kahl contributes her time and efforts
in a variety of jobs, from writing and distributing press releases, to performing
office duties and handling special projects, she is always available at our beckon
call. And lastly, there is one individual everything hinges upon, a person that
gets everything in order, accounted for, and accomplished in an orderly sound
fashion. Without her supervision and counsel SRC would be in a terrible mismanaged
state of affairs. We owe our thanks and appreciation to Sharon Johnson. A work-a-holic,
good manager and listener. SRC is mighty proud to have them as volunteers and
friends of cats. In the coming editions of our newsletter we will be highlighting
other volunteers who give of their time and efforts on behalf of SRC. ***SRC
is commencing a memorial page in our newsletter devoted to remembering a family
member or precious pet that has passed on to Rainbow Heaven. Please forward your
remembrances with the name of your beloved family member, date of birth and the
date passing along with your gift to SRC. The remembrance will be published in
our next newsletter. ***Barn
Cats available, ideal residents for stables or barns. Healthy, sterilized cats
need barn homes. These cats are feral and need a home at a farm, horse stable,
or other suitable outdoor environment with shelter. Caretaker responsibilities
include providing daily food water, protection from the elements and long term
veterinary care. Be prepared for a brief period of adjustment. Moving to a new
home is stressful for anyone, cats included! After a short stay in secure confinement,
the cats will accept their new home and be chasing mice, lizards, and palmetto
bugs out of your grain, barns and homes. ***Sav-R-Cats
needs volunteers to work with the hundreds of feral, abandoned, or lost cats roaming
the roads, streets and vacant lands of Horry County. SRC uses a trap-neuter-return
program to try and help control the feline population. Volunteers will be asked
to assist in working in the SRC offices, colony control, as community caretakers,
trapping cats, working at the adoption centers or shelters, assist veterinarians
or on fund raising committees
Anyone interested in volunteering please call
John e Bonsignor (843) 385-3963 or (843) 839-6902. ***Contributions
or donations are sorely needed by SRC, as our resources and funds are becoming
very low. Any funds received will go directly to pay for medical expenses or purchase
cat food, litter, igloos (shelters), bowls, paper towels, disinfectants, air fresheners,
etc. Sav-R-Cats
